Our nursery provides a warm, safe and caring setting for your infants and toddlers under age 3 to enjoy Sunday morning. The nursery and runs continuously from 7:45-11:15 a.m. to enable parents to attend the worship service of their choice, and the FaithWeaver program.
Advent’s FaithWeaver Sunday School takes place from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. This program, developed by Group Publishing is intended for children and their parents, grandparents, and other related adults. Meeting in separate classrooms, the children and adults explore the same scripture each week. This gives the adults who play an integral part in the lives of children a powerful means for reinforcing, throughout the week, the Christ-centered lessons that the children learn each Sunday morning. We know the greatest influences on faith are the conversations that happen at home. Whether at the kitchen table or in the car, the FaithWeaver content makes it easy for families to talk about the Bible and their faith. The kids at Advent have many other opportunities for fun, fellowship and service during the year, the most memorable being our annual St. Nicholas Day celebration, held each year in December. In 2011, the kids also ice skated together at Halloran Ice Rink, hiked at Whipps Ledges, swam at Huntington Beach, made caramel apples, enjoyed Game Nights, coded books for a Cleveland school, planted and maintained the flower urns on the terrace, and joined our worship team as acolytes and members of the choir. We love that our kids want to spend time together and are always up for fun. Visit us on Facebook often and check out ADVENTures (our parish newsletter, accessible by clicking here*) for news of upcoming youth group outings. Pictures of recent outings can be viewed on our Photo Galleries page (click here to jump to that page).
The success and popularity of the FaithWeaver program at Advent led in 2011 to a vacation bible school program which also used Group curriculum, and incorporated a theme described as “Hometown Nazareth.” This curriculum was enjoyed so much by the kids and the adults who attended and helped that we’ll be offering a Group theme again in the summer of 2012 - and we are excited to announce that the activities will include, instead of crafts, science experiments and activities. Pictures of the 2011 Hometown Nazareth program can be viewed on our Photo Galleries page (click here to jump to that page).
Alpha is a 10-week
course that we offer each spring and fall on the Christian faith. Each
session starts with a shared meal, followed by a short video
presentation, and then discussion in small groups. Some may come to
Alpha to investigate whether God exists. Others wonder what life is all
about; still others wonder whether there is life after death. Others may
have attended church, but feel that they have never really understood
the basics of Christianity and want to learn more about their faith.
Beginning in 2012, we will offer, in addition to the basic Alpha course,
a second course entitled “A Life Worth Living,” which is an exploration
of the Book of Philippians. Either course can offer you a valuable
opportunity to explore the meaning of life. To learn more about
Alpha, visit the website by clicking
here. If you would like to enroll in the Alpha course which
will start at Advent on January 25, please

A trip taken by a group of women at Advent to the Women of Faith Conference in Pittsburgh last October bore amazing fruit: a deepening of the close and supportive relationships among the women and children at Advent; many new fellowship events and opportunities; and a new bible study group entitled “Sisters in Christ.” This group meets twice each month on Sunday evenings in the homes of the attendees, and gives those interested in a Bible study another option - our other study groups include those that meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays between services, and the men's study group which meets on Wednesday mornings. If you would like to join the women at a Sisters in Christ Bible Study, or attend a men's or mixed gender study group, please contact Fr. Johnson by telephone at 440-871-6685 or by clicking here to send him an e-mail.
On September 28 – 29, 2012, the women of Advent will travel together to attend the Women of Faith Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. For more information about Women of Faith, check out its website. If you would like to join the Advent women on their trip, contact the church office at 440-871-6685 or click here to send an e-mail to leave your name and number and the trip coordinator will contact you.
